Practical information for hospitals, care homes, community services and families considering Mobility Shower.
Mobility Shower Mini (SB04) is the compact handcart. The water and temperature details below refer to the Mini unless stated otherwise.
Mobility Shower Mobile (SB02) is the larger, battery-equipped room-to-room care cart. Its supplier sheet lists clean and wastewater tanks of at least 12 litres each, temperature control with stated ±2°C accuracy and heating up to 1,500 W. Filling temperature, heating on battery, safe temperature limits and validated cleaning still require the current manual.
Product figures below come from the supplied Mini (SB04) brochure. We are still confirming the detailed operating and cleaning procedures for the UK configuration. This page is a buyer’s guide, not an operating manual.
The brochure describes an adjustable bathing-temperature range of 30°C to 55°C and lists an optional 220 V AC, 2 kW heating rod. It does not explain whether the standard unit heats the water, maintains the tank temperature, mixes water or regulates temperature at the washing head.
We therefore cannot yet confirm thermostat type, sensor position, temperature accuracy, warm-up time, or automatic protection if water becomes too hot. These need to be checked against the operating manual and the exact supplied configuration.
This has not yet been confirmed for the UK Mini (SB04) configuration. The optional heater listing alone does not establish the correct filling temperature or prove that the standard package can heat a full tank from cold. The required fill-water temperature, maximum permitted inlet temperature and heater procedure must come from the manufacturer’s instructions.
A brochure’s upper setting must not be treated as a safe washing temperature. HSE identifies increased scalding risk for vulnerable people, particularly above 44°C. Your care organisation must set appropriate temperature controls and checks for the individual and the equipment.
Read HSE scalding guidance| Item | Brochure specification | Practical point |
|---|---|---|
| Clean-water tank | 12 litres, folding type | Connection, filling method and minimum/maximum fill marks still to confirm. |
| Wastewater tank | At least 4 litres | Usable collection volume, emptying method and full-tank protection still to confirm. |
| Water use per wash | Not specified | Tank capacity does not establish how many people can be washed from one fill. |
| Water reuse | No recirculation specification supplied | Do not assume collected wastewater is reused for washing. |
| Handling weight | Dry unit: 15.5 kg | 12 litres of water alone weighs approximately 12 kg. Filled tank handling and the complete operating weight need confirmation. |
The clean-water and wastewater capacities are different. Do not assume the whole clean-water supply can be used before the collection tank needs attention. Emptying intervals and any automatic stop need to be confirmed.
The supplied brochure does not show the filling point, tank connection or step-by-step filling procedure. It does not establish whether the folding reservoir is external or fitted inside the unit, or whether it is filled in place or removed.
We need the approved filling demonstration, suitable water specification, permitted fill temperature, fill limits and connection checks before publishing operating steps.
The removal method, drain arrangement, level indication and overflow controls are not described in the brochure. We also need instructions for disconnecting, emptying, cleaning, drying and reassembling the tank.
Care teams should agree an appropriate wastewater disposal route through their local infection-prevention procedures, supported by the manufacturer’s instructions.
Cleaning the outside of the unit is only one part of the question. Care teams need the validated procedure for the washing head, hoses, clean-water reservoir and wastewater tank, including which components are single use, single-patient use or reusable between people.
Approved products, dilution, contact time, material compatibility, internal flushing and drying instructions have not yet been supplied in an SB04 operating manual. We do not currently claim that the system self-disinfects or that any particular chemical is suitable.
NHS England guidance calls for appropriate decontamination of reusable non-invasive equipment between uses or patients and in line with the manufacturer’s instructions. Its guidance also recommends involving infection-prevention teams before procuring or trialling reusable equipment.
Read NHS England equipment guidanceUse these topics for a demonstration, procurement review or discussion with your clinical, estates and infection-prevention teams.
Ask for the intended-use statement, contraindications and instructions covering fragile skin, reduced sensation, wounds, dressings, lines and catheters. Suitability remains individual; the device is not a treatment for infection or pressure sores.
Confirm suction settings, permitted contact pressure, maximum contact time, skin precautions and what happens if a seal is lost. Do not infer suction limits from another model.
Staffing follows the person’s moving-and-handling plan, positioning and support needs. A single-carer claim should not be applied to every patient.
Request explicit intended-use and cleaning instructions for each body area, including component separation, skin-product compatibility and any restrictions.
Ask for measured setup, warm-up, washing, emptying and cleaning times, and water use for body washing and hair washing separately. No verified SB04 figures for these tasks are currently published here.
Request measured sound levels and test conditions, particularly for overnight wards, dementia care and shared rooms.
Confirm hose length, permitted operating distance, clearance around the bed, wheel brakes and any tipping or trip precautions.
The SB04 brochure lists a mains adapter; a battery is not confirmed. Do not use SB02 battery specifications for this unit.
The brochure lists 220 to 240 V AC, 50 to 60 Hz input; 24 V, 15 A adapter output; and up to 360 W for the base system. The optional 2 kW heater is a separate load to clarify. Confirm UK plug, adapter, earthing/insulation, cable details and the complete electrical configuration.
Request the fault and alarm list for over-temperature, low water, full wastewater tank, blocked hoses, loss of suction, leakage and power failure, including safe shutdown and recovery steps.
Request the current Declaration of Conformity, applicable product classification and regulatory route, model-specific safety/EMC reports, water-ingress rating, risk information and UK instructions. A general factory certificate does not establish every device claim.
Confirm planned maintenance, temperature checks and calibration, electrical checks, servicing intervals, replaceable filters and seals, expected life and end-of-life arrangements.
Confirm the labelled use category of each component, validated between-patient processing and whether separate patient-specific kits are required.
Request the process for flushing, disinfection, complete drainage and drying, including storage and re-use after an idle period. The procedure must address the actual water circuit.
Ask for approved cleansers, disinfectants, concentrations and contact times, allergy/latex information, and any prohibited products. Do not choose chemicals from generic advice alone.
Confirm cleaning before transport, separation of clean and contaminated items, water-emptying requirements, upright transport and responsibilities between visits.
Confirm the unit, UK power supply, heater if ordered, reservoirs, hoses, body/hair heads, initial consumables, instructions and accessories item by item.
Request component life, replacement frequency, unit prices and availability for heads, hoses, seals, filters, cleansers and any single-use items.
Agree setup and cleaning training, staff competency checks, accessible instructions, a practical demonstration and the support route for faults.
Confirm delivery lead time, commissioning, warranty scope, repair turnaround, spare-parts availability, loan-unit arrangements and multi-unit quotations before ordering.
The supplier brochure states a 30°C to 55°C range. An overseas seller lists 30°C to 45°C, so the current model-specific temperature specification also needs clarification. The separate Mobile (SB02) specifications come from its own supplier product sheet. Its battery, temperature accuracy and tank capacities must not be applied to the Mini (SB04).
